Not sure how I didn’t see this until now, pfft.

I think a lot of the burden of carrying a community is more aptly “poverty tax”, one of those frequent follow-come add-ons to the Black tax as you’ve referenced it. I watched an Anthony Joshua interview on The Breakfast Club where he mentions something about carrying a community. It’s mad to be a first-gen better class person, especially back in the day when families were usually extended and large. Big ups to better people like your dad and his peers; I think they’re also realizing how hard it can be because they try to shield us (at least my parents do) from extended family and responsibilities. Glad you wrote this.
